Hoover High School: International Baccalaureate Program

What is IB?: The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

What is the IB Diploma?:    The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program is a challenging two-year high school curriculum offered in high schools around the world. It leads to a qualification for acceptance, credit, and scholarships and is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities. IB Diploma students take courses in six areas in grades 11 and 12.

Students at Hoover High School have two IB options for grades 11 and 12

They can pursue the full IB Diploma

OR

They can take two or more IB courses.

What is Pre-IB?: At HHS we offer courses in grades 9 and 10 to prepare students for the IB program in grades 11 and 12.  Pre-IB students take Pre-IB English and History and are grouped with other Pre-IB students during advisory to work on team building and the development of “soft skills” like study strategies, time management, public speaking, etc.. Pre-IB students who think they may want to pursue the full IB diploma should be enrolled in Spanish or Latin.

We are the IB high school for all of the city of Hoover, so students zoned for Spain Park High School would be eligible for an Administrative Assignment to Hoover High School to participate in the IB program. Students must remain enrolled in the IB program to be eligible for the Administrative Assignment (however, students must have their own transportation).
